The 5th International Pastel Biennale is a continuation of Polish national pastels exhibitions carried out since 1987 by the former Małopolska Biuro Wystaw Artystycznych in Nowy Sącz. The partner of the SOKÓŁ MCK in the Biennale organization is the Association of Polish Pastelists based in Nowy Sącz, which was founded in 1995 by winners and exhibition participants. The Biennale is held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Marshal of the Lesser Poland Voivodship and the Mayor of Nowy Sacz, who are also the founders of some of the awards. Artistic patronage: Academy of Fine Arts Jan Matejko in Krakow and the Association of Polish Visual Artists. The works submitted for the competition are evaluated by the international jury, which awards prizes and distinctions.
In the edition from 2010, whose premiere show lasted at the BWA SOKÓŁ Gallery, 193 artists from 21 countries took part, including 130 artists from Poland and 63 artists from abroad, who submitted a total of 533 works. Finally, after the selection of the works, which was carried out by the qualification commission chaired by prof. Adam Wsiołkowski - Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, 141 authors from 20 countries took part in the competition exhibition. from the USA, Israel, Slovakia, Romania, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Spain, Lithuania, Finland, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Turkey, Bulgaria, Thailand and Poland. In total, 185 works were presented.

The 5th International Biennale of Pastels was accompanied by exhibitions: Agata Rościechy - winners of the 2008 Grand Prix Biennale and Jan Matheus De Grauw from Rotterdam - the juror of the previous Biennale. Works by artists from Thailand were also presented.
