In collaboration with the Association for Chronically Ill People and Disabled Children "Nasz Dom” in Piwniczna-Zdrój, we created an exhibition of works by Małgorzata Jakacka and Magdalena Tymura, as part of the 2nd Festival of Sensitive Culture.
MAŁGORZATA JAKACKA – PAINTING
Małgorzata, who was diagnosed with autism, speaks to us through her paintings in which, with great intuition, she combines the harmony of composition with a broad palette of colours taken from nature. Carefully observing her environment, she can successfully depict the changes of seasons and of weather, or the mood of a given time of day. Małgorzata’s favourite themes, in which we can discover her extraordinary sense of colour, are - above all – country landscapes, coastal scenery, small-town vedutas. With no lesser tenderness and dedication, she also takes up the Christmas and Easter themes that are then reproduced as seasonal greeting cards.
Colours play an important role in Małgorzata’s life – like a mirror, it reflects her emotional states that she goes through while painting another landscape. Luscious greens, deep blues, subtle roses, washed-out oranges, wintry whites, or gloomy browns and greys – they all make up a map for Małgorzasta’s sensitive, artistic soul. Even though she is a shy, very private person shunning contact with people, but owing to her art, she is well-known to the inhabitants of Piwniczna-Zdrój and its vicinities. Her works are keenly purchased during auctions, holiday markets, or open-air events organized by the “Nasz Dom” Association, in whose therapeutic activities and workshops she has been participating for the past few years

MAGDALENA TYMURA – CRÊPE PAPER FLOWERS
She is an autistic person and only owing to the great effort of her parents, who obtained for her specialist healthcare, her illness was halted from progressing any further. Autism causes her to retreat into the world of emotions, which restricts her contacts with her agemates considerably. She is very sensitive, especially to the natural environment that surrounds her. She loves animals and the world of flora – and most of all, flowers whose beauty she captures in her artwork.
In 2007 she was diagnosed with an incurable disease. During the extensive hospitalization in the University Hospital in Krakow-Prokocim, her talent for handiwork became apparent. In Magdalena’s delicate hands, colourful thin crepe paper was turning into beautiful bunches of flowers, and the first basket of tulips she made delighted her entire hospital ward.
She fulfils herself in what she does and she wishes to share her passion with others. Her biggest dream came true in 2014 – she had her own exhibition in Galeria Kazimierz in Kraków, Poland, where she could present her artwork. Her second exhibition was in 2016 in Galeria Pod Piątką (now Galeria In My Opinion /IMO Gallery/) in Stary Sącz, Poland.
Currently, this talented protégée of the "Nasz Dom” Association participates in therapeutic activities they organise, where she has the opportunity to realise her creative potential.
